About
Where All Women Are Honored Winyan Wicayuonihan Oyanke
We are a grassroots organization that was founded by one woman with a dream and more importantly a commitment. A dream to end violence against Indigenous women. She wanted to strengthen our sovereignty as a Nation by holding perpetrators accountable. She and a few young women had the same dream. Together they developed WAWAH and opened shelter doors with absolutely no funding, just a strong desire to keep women and children safe and honored.
In 2018 the Indian Health Service of Sioux San helped make that dream become a reality. They provided a three-bedroom house for shelter. That unfortunately ended in 2022 when they built a new facility that could not house the shelter. We became an outreach program up to today.
